Acto de presentación en Madrid de la Campaña para la Contracumbre OTAN

Los días 29 y 30 de junio de 2022 se celebrará en Madrid la XXX Cumbre de la OTAN; no será una reunión de trámite de la organización: en ella está previsto acordar oficialmente el relanzamiento de esta alianza como fuerza global capaz de intervenir en cualquier lugar del mundo, como fuerza ofensiva que elimine cualquier obstáculo o impedimento a la expansión occidental que asegure su dominio en el mundo bajo la hegemonía de EEUU.

Esta no es una presunción descabellada: de los doce miembros que la fundaron en 1949 se ha pasado hoy a 30 y otros 40 países más tienen vínculos militares con esta alianza. Cuando en 1991 desapareció su gran antagonista, el Pacto de Varsovia, la OTAN no se disolvió, sino que duplicó sus miembros y realizó ofensivas militares en Yugoeslavia, Afganistán y Libia que han producido centenares de miles de víctimas, en su mayor parte civiles y la destrucción de esos países, hoy sumidos en la miseria. Todo ello vulnerando el derecho internacional y la Carta de las Naciones Unidas.

Su acción no se limita a Oriente: su presencia en África, su alianza con Colombia y el cerco a la Federación Rusa en Europa, hablan de sus ambiciones mundiales.

No menos importantes han sido sus ejércitos encubiertos: la Red Gladio, organizada, entrenada y financiada por la OTAN y la CIA, cometió centenares de atentados terroristas en Europa causando cientos de víctimas, ejércitos que fueron denunciados por el Presidente de la República Italiana y reconocidos por la propia UE.

La próxima cumbre quiere reforzar esta trayectoria y lo hará exigiendo un mayor compromiso a sus socios y aliados. No será un acuerdo entre iguales; desde su fundación, el mando militar le corresponde a los EEUU estatutariamente y además, existe la obligación de actuar en defensa de cualquier socio atacado, dos preceptos que ponen a los socios a los pies de EEUU. Ni libertad, ni paz, ni democracia, sino dominio y sometimiento.

La OTAN no es solo un instrumento de agresión político militar: es el elemento esencial del complejo militar industrial que agrupa a la industria y el comercio de armamento, el sistema financiero, la investigación y los sistemas de propaganda; en suma, un elemento indispensable para la supervivencia de este sistema.

La cumbre debe afrontar la inserción de la OTAN en los profundos cambios ya en marcha y el reto que supone la emergencia de la Federación Rusa y de China, a quienes ya criminaliza y a quienes no dudará en calificarlos como enemigos, iniciando un nuevo ciclo de guerra fría.

En el caso español, el panorama se complica aún más: nuestra situación geoestratégica, unida a las bases militares de soberanía estadounidense, aumenta nuestra dependencia y multiplica el riesgo de ser un objetivo militar, especialmente en el caso de un conflicto nuclear.

Se da la circunstancia de que en el próximo mes de mayo se renovará el convenio para la permanencia de esas bases, hecho poco divulgado que se pretenderá que pase desapercibido, ocultando la importancia de esas instalaciones, su contribución a la guerra y el riesgo que comportan.

Ni debemos ni podemos permanecer inmóviles ante esta situación, Hay que alertar y movilizar las conciencias ante tanta barbarie, luchar por impedir la impunidad de estos poderes, exigir el desmantelamiento de esta maquinaria del terror, el cese de las injerencias y el estricto cumplimiento del derecho internacional y la Carta de las Naciones Unidas.

Nada de esto será posible sin una acción consciente, organizada y mantenida en el tiempo, de aquí a la cumbre y más allá.

Por todo ello, el Frente Antiimperialista Internacionalista y la Asamblea OTAN NO de Madrid convocamos a un primer acto donde se expondrá y debatirá la trayectoria de esta organización criminal, la transcendencia de su próxima Cumbre, la renovación de las bases y un plan de acción para el futuro inmediato, que incluye la convocatoria de una Contracumbre Internacional para los días 24, 25 y 26 de junio en Madrid.

Será en el Teatro del Barrio de Madrid (c/ Zurita 20, <M> Lavapiés), el martes 8 de febrero, de 19 a 21 horas.

Presentation event in Madrid of the Campaign for the NATO Counter-Summit

On June 29 and 30, 2022, the XXX NATO Summit will be held in Madrid; it will not be a “business as usual” meeting of the organization: it is planned to officially agree on the relaunching of this alliance as a global force capable of intervening anywhere in the world, as an offensive force that eliminates any obstacle or impediment to Western expansion that ensures its dominance in the world under the hegemony of the United States.

This is not a far-fetched assumption: from the twelve members that founded it in 1949, it has grown to 30 today and another 40 countries have military links with this alliance. When its great antagonist, the Warsaw Pact, disappeared in 1991, NATO did not dissolve, but rather doubled its membership and carried out military offensives in Yugoslavia, Afghanistan and Libya, resulting in hundreds of thousands of victims, mostly civilians, and the destruction of those countries, which are now plunged into misery. All this in violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.

Its actions are not limited to the East: its presence in Africa, its alliance with Colombia and its encirclement of the Russian Federation in Europe speak of its global ambitions.

No less important have been its covert armies: the Gladio Network, organized, trained and financed by NATO and the CIA, committed hundreds of terrorist attacks in Europe causing hundreds of victims, armies that were denounced by the President of the Italian Republic and recognized by the EU itself.

The forthcoming summit wants to reinforce this trajectory and will do so by demanding a greater commitment from its partners and allies. It will not be an agreement between equals; since its foundation, military command has statutorily corresponded to the USA and, in addition, there is an obligation to act in defense of any partner under attack, two precepts that place the partners at the feet of the USA. Neither freedom, nor peace, nor democracy, but domination and subjugation.

NATO is not only an instrument of political-military aggression: it is the essential element of the military industrial complex which groups together the arms industry and trade, the financial system, research and propaganda systems; in short, an indispensable element for the survival of this system.

The summit must face the insertion of NATO in the profound changes already underway and the challenge posed by the emergence of the Russian Federation and China, whom it already criminalizes and whom it will not hesitate to label as enemies, initiating a new cycle of cold war.

In the case of Spain, the situation is even more complicated: our geostrategic situation, together with the military bases under US sovereignty, increases our dependence and multiplies the risk of being a military target, especially in the event of a nuclear conflict.

It so happens that next May the agreement for the permanence of these bases will be renewed, a little publicized fact that is intended to go unnoticed, hiding the importance of these facilities, their contribution to the war and the risk they entail.

We must not and cannot remain motionless in the face of this situation. We must alert and mobilize consciences in the face of such barbarity, fight to prevent the impunity of these powers, demand the dismantling of this machinery of terror, the cessation of interference and strict compliance with international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

None of this will be possible without conscious, organized and sustained action, from here to the summit and beyond.

For all these reasons, the Internationalist Anti-Imperialist Front and the No to NATO Assembly of Madrid call for a first event where the trajectory of this criminal organization, the transcendence of its next Summit, the renewal of the bases and a plan of action for the immediate future will be exposed and debated, which includes the call for an International Counter-Summit for the 24th, 25th and 26th of June in Madrid.

It will be held at the Teatro del Barrio, Madrid (20, Zurita St. <M> Lavapiés), on Tuesday, February 8th, from 7 to 9 pm.
